The EAL Teacher supports multilingual learners in developing English language proficiency across listening, speaking, reading, and writing. This role ensures equitable access to the curriculum and promotes inclusion within the IB learning community. The EAL teacher collaborates closely with homeroom and subject teachers to scaffold learning and monitor student progress in alignment with IB, WIDA, and KIS inclusion principles.Reports to:EAL Coordinator (Primary or School Wide) and/or Elementary PrincipalKey ResponsibilitiesInstruction & SupportPlan, deliver, and reflect on high-quality EAL lessons that foster academic language development within inquiry-based contexts.Provide targeted individual, small-group, and in-class support tailored to students’ proficiency levels.Implement WIDA standards, formative assessments, and differentiation strategies to guide instruction.Support classroom teachers in embedding language objectives within unit planning and instruction.Use student data (MAP, WIDA, class assessments) to monitor language progress and inform next steps.Language Growth PlansDevelop and maintain individual Language Growth Plans for all EAL students.Collaborate with classroom teachers to identify specific language goals and strategies for each student.Regularly update the plans based on formative and summative assessment data.Share progress with parents, classroom teachers, and the Student Support Team.Use the plans to determine appropriate support levels and to guide exit or continuation in the EAL program.Collaboration & InclusionCo-plan with homeroom and subject teachers to ensure language and content integration.Participate in planning meetings and contribute to inclusive practices across the school.Support EAL students’ participation in all school activities, promoting confidence and agency.Liaise with the Student Learning Support Team (SLST) for cases requiring additional intervention.Assessment & ReportingConduct diagnostic assessments and ongoing progress monitoring.Document growth using WIDA performance levels and internal EAL tracking tools.Contribute to semester report cards with evidence-based comments on language development.Participate in Three-Way Conferences and provide specific feedback to parents on student progress.Professionalism & Community EngagementModel KIS core values and uphold the IB Learner Profile.Engage in continuous professional learning (IB, WIDA, inclusion, and literacy development).Support school events, assemblies, and initiatives that celebrate multilingualism and cultural diversity.Contribute to the overall positive and inclusive school climate.QualificationsBachelor’s degree in Education, TESOL, CELTA, Applied Linguistics, or related field (Master’s preferred).Valid teaching certification and EAL endorsement.Minimum 2 years of EAL or international teaching experience (IB PYP or MYP preferred).Strong understanding of second language acquisition and inclusive instructional strategies.Experience using WIDA and MAP frameworks is an asset.Excellent communication, teamwork, and intercultural competence.Performance IndicatorsClear evidence of student progress on Language Growth Plans.
