- Cooperate with teaching staff and administrators to promote literature and life-long learning skills for the school students.
- Support all users in access to the library, its resources, and academic technology in the library.
- Catalogues the new stock, donations, textbooks
- Process department materials as requested for Accelerated Reader programme.
- Perform copy-cataloguing according to the established classifications.
- Participate in the annual stocktake to ensure that the accurate inventory of library stock is maintained.
- Ensure the efficient retrieval of the library materials according to the library standard and use appropriate shelf signs and book labels.
- Ensure the orderly organization of the library resources e.g. regular shelving and shelf reading.
- Prepare and regularly update thematic book displays to provide exposure to a diverse range of materials and to highlight select collections.
- Perform basic book repairs (when possible) and identify library materials to weed and re-stock.
- Assist teaching staff, students, and administrative staff on how to effectively search the library catalogue and access library resources.
- Teach pupils on the importance of book care and library etiquette (incl. library induction).
- Promote library services via internal and external communication channels (including but not limited to social media, meetings, and representing the library at school-wide events, the open day).
- Participate as a member of staff in meetings, and assemblies, serve on school-wide committees, chaperone school events, and share in supervisory duties as requested..
- Inform users about overdue library resources issued to them.
- Liaise with accounting and parents/guardians regarding lost book fees and replacements.
- Liaise with suppliers of the resources in relation to purchasing, cancellation and/or change of the terms of subscription, requesting passwords, logins and/or other necessary data.
- Maintain a database of purchased subscriptions with information about the subscription, supplier, contacts from companies, subscription status, validity periods, account data during registration, etc.
- Act proactively in matters related to child protection, health, and safety.
- Promote positive pupil behaviour in line with School policies.
- Attend meetings as required by the school and assist with parents’ evenings.
- Speak to parents before and after school regarding the progress of their children and interpret for class teachers as necessary. Ensure that any information passed on from parents and other adults responsible for a child’s welfare is communicated to the class teacher.
- Attend school assemblies and other events.
- Encourage children when speaking English and promote its frequency for language acquisition.
- Ensure that information relating to pupils is kept confidential.
- Be proactive in matters relating to health and safety.
- Understand Safeguarding procedures in line with school policy.
- Set a good example to pupils through presentation, personal and professional conduct, including arriving punctually for lessons and following the school dress code for staff.
- Be familiar with key school policies and procedures.
- Attend and participate in meetings as required.
- Establish and maintain effective and professional working relationships with colleagues.
- Keep abreast of current educational developments and practice.
- Undertake other duties as the Headmaster may reasonably direct.
- Teaching Degree (preferably in librarian science)
- Advanced level of English, minimum IELTS 6.0 (desirable)
- At least 2 years of working experience in libraries and working with young children
